Finally someone isn’t condeming Harry Potter! Although many churches and religious places see the “Harry Potter” books as a front for the occult, an inventive Quincy church takes just the opposite view- especially around Halloween. The Quincy Community United Methodist Church on Saturday will, for the second year in a row, be transformed into Hogwarts and will open it’s doors to the local children who will enter the magical world of Harry Potter for the afternoon. The minister, Rev. Susan Jarel-Glidden has no patience or people who see a children’s book series about growing up wizardly as anti-religious. “Harry Potter teaches it’s rught to stand up for yourself, it’s right to stand up for your friend, to be devoted to a cause.” She even goes on to say, to be willing to, “give your life for your friends. Hello? Where have we heard that one before?” Glidden also says that they are, “a wonderful series that teaches about good and evil.” With that said, the church tries to go all out and re-create the true version of the wizard prep school. The visiting students will get to join in Hogwarts rituals such as the Sorting Hat Ceremony, the Portrait Lady and choosing your own magical wand. This year, with the release of GoF, the have decided to do a Tri-Wizard Tournament theme. It’s nice to finally see a church that is willing to give the books a chance, now if only everyone else would at least try.The rest of the article can be found on the website.
